xCell Cyclops

A state-of-the-art sensor and algorithm to detect rock convergence in mines, providing real-time data to safety managers.
Product
Advanced Warning
The Sandvik xCell Cyclops utilises range finder laser sensors for precise distance measurements up to 20m away within an accuracy of 2mm, offering real-time monitoring and critical alerts, enhancing safety management in mining tunnels.

Partnership
Profiting From Experience
Drawing on extensive experience in mining technology, we knew just how harsh the environment can be. Utilizing methodical and user-centric design processes, our Industrial Design, Hardware Electronics, and Software Engineers collaborated with Sandvik to create a reliable, robust and safety-enhancing solution for mine workers.

Sandvik
Cross functional expertise
Tasked with designing a compact, wireless sensing system that is easy to install and offering seamless data delivery, we leveraged our cross functional expertise to create a device with real-time data processing and communication either by wifi, or to the xCell Professor Gateway on drive-by data collection vehicles.

Impact
A worthy cause
Tunnel convergence is a common issue that poses significant safety risks for workers and is currently measured with manual and labor-intensive processes. Our team were dedicated to delivering a system which pushed the boundaries of new and innovative thinking to alleviate worker risk in mines. Here are some of the xCell's unique features:
Key Features
Quality beyond expectation
Drawing on our skill with complex injection molding of shock-resistant materials, battery life optimization, wireless connectivity, and advanced real-time data algorithms, we developed the xCell Cyclops to monitor distance for up to three years on a single battery charge, and offer precise measurements to within 2mm of accuracy.

Critical monitoring
Data collected instantly using either WiFi or via Bluetooth using the xCell Professor gateway device mounted to a mining vehicle as it travels through the tunnel, the Sandvik dashboard provides critical data in a clear and easy to manage format allowing operators to make critical decisions quickly. The real-time data processing algorithms generate alerts and notifications when tunnel convergence exceeds acceptable thresholds, enabling proactive risk mitigation and ensuring worker safety.
